Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HTML to Markdown?+

Paste the HTML into the box above. The converter parses it in your browser and outputs Markdown. It accepts a whole document or a snippet, and it ignores scripts, styles and other non-content tags.

Which HTML elements are supported?+

Headings (h1 to h6), paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, links, images, ordered and unordered lists, nested lists, task lists, blockquotes, inline code, pre and code blocks, horizontal rules and tables. Everything else passes through as plain text.

What Markdown flavor is produced?+

GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM): ATX headings (#), fenced code blocks (```), dash bullets and pipe tables. It renders correctly on GitHub, GitLab, Notion, Obsidian and in most static site generators.

Can I convert a web page instead of HTML code?+

Yes. Copy the rendered page content and use the Paste to Markdown converter, or install the Copy as Markdown Chrome extension to copy any selection as Markdown directly from the page.

Is there a size limit?+

No hard limit. Conversion happens locally, so very large documents just take a moment longer.

Is it free and private?+

Yes. No account, no upload and no tracking of what you paste.
